Alicia was born in Singapore, her mother in Malaysia. Alicia’s mother came to Singapore in search of a better economic
future. She worked as a hairdresser and now cooks. She does not speak English but Malaysian and Cantonese. Alicia does
not speak Malaysian and Cantonese. She and her mother speak their own language and many times Alicia uses a
translator.
