Su’s parents were at university when the 1988 uprising in Myanmar took place. Many of her friends suffered repression.
When there was a second uprising in 2008, they decided to leave the country for Singapore. They feared for their
lives.
Su had to migrate and feels differently now, especially because of the language, Cantonese, and because as a child she
was discriminated against. Su is still connected to her native country, and thinks about going back
one day.
